Schools and educational settings

The Wellbeing Treehouse is an independent educational and child psychology service that specialises in support for children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs.”
A range of psychological services are offered to schools and educational settings. See below for examples of work that can be commissioned.

CONSULTATION & ASSESSMENT

We use a collaborative, solution-focused, consultation approach to support the key people to effectively problem-solve solutions to the presenting problem. Work is carried out jointly with children and young people, their families, setting staff and other professionals so that a shared narrative of the situation can be created and an action plan, that is co-created by all those involved, can be put in place. Assessment is used within an assess-plan-do-review model to gather information, answer questions about the situation and test theories about the presenting difficulties.

In addition, we offer person-centred planning and review meetings, using approaches such as PATHs (Planning Alternative Futures with Hope) and MAPs (Making Action Plans), and problem-solving approaches such as Circles of Adults and Solution Circles.

PSYCHOLOGICAL INTERVENTIONS

Individual and small group interventions with children and young people can be arranged to meet a range of special educational needs. The following are some examples of interventions:
  • R-Time (Relationships to improve education)
  • MindUP (TM) program for creating a mindful, emotionally and socially literate classroom
  • Precision Teaching for teaching literacy or numeracy skills to children making little or no progress
  • Building confidence, self-esteem and self-awareness with teenagers
  • Transition to secondary school (universal and targeted interventions)
  • Therapeutic Stories for children who are hurting inside
  • Video Interaction Guidance to support parents, teaching assistants or teachers
  • Individual or small group sessions with children or young people with social, emotional or mental health needs (e.g. CBT, solution-focused brief therapy, motivational interviewing)

TRAINING, SUPERVISION & COACHING

The Wellbeing Treehouse is able to offer a number of solutions to develop staff capacity within your setting. Two strengths-based approaches used to support staff are: Video Enhanced Reflective Practice, which can be run one-to-one or in a group of up to 5 staff members, and an observation-led model of Coaching.
The coaching and supervision models used are strengths-based and aimed at empowering staff and increasing their confidence around an area they would like to improve.

Staff who have participated have found the process positive and helpful, particularly the space it gives them to reflect with someone about their practice.
Training packages can be arranged on a range of topics to suit the needs of your setting. The following are some examples of training:
  • Promoting the inclusion of children with SEND in the classroom
  • Understanding how executive functions and working memory impact on readiness to learn
  • Understanding attachment and the impact of developmental trauma on the body and mind
  • Supporting learners with relationship and attachment needs
  • Emotion Coaching for school staff
  • The science of how we learn
  • Precision Teaching and Direct Instruction
  • Effective use of teaching assistants
  • R Time training for school staff

RESEARCH & EVALUATION

Evaluation is an integral part of the planning process to ensure that the services offered are meeting your needs and achieving your hoped for outcomes. In addition, we can offer support to evaluate programs you are implementing in the setting, for example, establishing baselines and measuring achieved outcomes. The Wellbeing Treehouse is also able to support settings with action research and approaches that support systemic change.
